Following the outbreak of the Coronavirus in Wuhan, China, GN initiated an internal outbreak taskforce and implemented all necessary and prudent actions as recommended by the authorities, including extending the vacation time across our Chinese operations.
Furthermore, the company immediately ceased travel to and from China and all interregional travel within China.
Despite these measures, on Wednesday, January 29, GN learned that a contract security guard working at our Xiamen site was confirmed infected by the Coronavirus (2019-nCoV). GN is taking all necessary steps to minimize any further spread of the virus, and has, as a consequence, further extended suspension of its operations at this site.
Any financial impact from these above actions and potential implications related to our many suppliers in China are not clear at this time and will be assessed over the next few weeks. Like other manufacturers in the tech industry that depend on components from China, GN’s ability to supply might be equally affected.
Obviously, the Coronavirus outbreak is of great concern to our Chinese employees and we will continue to work with our employees to alleviate the situation. We continue to stay in close contact with the local authorities and our suppliers and sub-contractors.
The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) state that the virus only spreads from person to person and as such consumers should not be concerned regarding our products in relation to the Coronavirus.
